Frequently Asked Questions
Are all Tierra Farm products organic?
Every Tierra Farm product is Certified Organic. We are certified by the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York, a USDA accredited organic certifying agency. In addition, all of our products are Certified Kosher by Earth Kosher and our chocolate and coffees are Certified Fair Trade by Fair Trade USA.
What does “Certified Organic” mean?
In a nutshell (pardon the pun), food products carrying the “Certified Organic” label are grown to the organic standards set forth by the National Organic Program of the USDA. Organic farmers are prohibited from using harmful synthetic pesticides and herbicides, irradiation, sewage sludge, genetically engineered seeds and synthetic fertilizers. Organic farming maintains and improves the productivity of the soil by enhancing natural biological processes. For more information, visit the USDA National Organic Program website (www.ams.usda.gov/AMSv1.0/nop) or Northeast Organic Farming Association website (www.nofany.org).
Are your products peanut-free?
We are a peanut free facility. We do not store, carry, or process any peanuts of any kind.
What is the shelf life of your products?
Raw nuts & seeds, and dried fruit are freshest for six months from the pack on date if properly stored. Roasted nuts & seeds, nut butters, granola, trail mixes, and chocolate covered products are good for eight months to a year if properly stored. Coffee is a shelf stable product and can be consumed long after it has been initially roasted. For the freshest cup, consume ground coffee within four weeks of opening the vacuum sealed bag and whole bean coffee within three months of opening.
What is the best way to store your products?
The best way to store our products is in a cool & dry environment, with limited/no exposure to sunlight or oxygen (i.e. in a sealed container).
Does Tierra Farm manufacture all of the products?
At Tierra Farm, we dry roast and flavor the nuts, we blend our own unique spices, we bake the granola, we blend the trail mixes, we grind the nut butter, we roast the coffee, we coat the nuts and dried fruit in chocolate - all made by hand in small batches for unbeatable taste and freshness. All of our deli cups are packaged to order - we don’t pack your items until after you’ve placed your order.
What is dry roasting?
Our nuts and seeds are slow-roasted to perfection in ovens without any added oils. This makes the nuts healthier and truer to flavor.
How is your coffee sourced and produced?
All of our coffee is Certified Fair Trade and Certified Organic. We travel to many of the small family farms from which we buy our shade grown coffee to find the very best green beans. We recently completed our new coffee production facility where we roast, blend, and flavor our coffee and frequently conduct tastings (always a popular event here). Our coffee is artisan roasted in micro batches and is packaged for you only after you’ve placed your order. Talk about fresh!
Does your dried fruit have sweeteners or preservatives? How are they dried?
Our Certified Organic dried fruits (with the exception of crystallized ginger, which contains sugar) contain no added refined sugars, sulfur, or other preservatives. Our dried cranberries and blueberries are sweetened with organic apple juice. Our fruit is either sun dried or kiln/tunnel dried to specific moisture contents, depending on the product.
Are your products gluten free?
Tierra Farm is now certified Gluten Free
Other allergen considerations?
Tierra Farm does not process any wheat, eggs, fish, shellfish, or peanuts. Our Tamari contains soy and all of our products made with Tamari contain soy. The dark chocolate chips contain soy and other chocolate-containing products may contain traces of milk and/or soy. These soy-containing products are handled in the same facility and may be manufactured on the same equipment as other Tierra Farm products. As products and processes may change, please always refer to individual product labels.
Are your products vegan?
All of our nuts (with the exception of honey roasted), seeds, dried fruit, granola, trail mixes, nut butters and coffee are vegan. Exceptions are honey roasted products and chocolate covered products.
Do your products contain GMOs
No. None of our products contain genetically modified organisms.
Are your products irradiated?
No. None of our products are irradiated.
How do you ship your products?
Internet orders are shipped via UPS (Ground Service unless otherwise specified), usually within three business days of placing the order. Transit times vary between one and five business days from shipment date. If you are not home at the time of the delivery, at the UPS driver’s discretion, they may leave your package/s at the address you provided. We are unable to ship to PO boxes or outside the continental United States. Shipping is free on orders over $100 for internet orders.
What if I have a problem with an order?
Tierra Farm prides itself on quality products and exceptional customer service. We have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If there is a problem with your order, please let us know and we will work to correct it.
Where do your products come from?
With over fourteen years of experience in the organic nuts & dried fruits industry, we have developed strong relationships with some of the best organic farmers in the world. Where a choice exists, we source domestically or from as close to home as possible. We strive to get our products directly from farmers and take every opportunity to visit the farms we buy from. This allows us to preserve our organic integrity and ensure fair business practices throughout the supply chain.
Does your company offer wholesale pricing?
Yes. We supply cooperatives, health food stores, buying clubs, and independently owned grocery stores throughout the country. Wholesale orders benefit from reduced prices but require a larger minimum order size. Please contact us for more details: firstname.lastname@example.org or (888) ORG-NUTS / (518) 392-8300.
Where can I find Tierra Farm’s products?

We recently opened a retail store at our headquarters in Valatie, NY, where customers are able to purchase all of our (almost 200) products. Also, if you’re in the Albany area, please stop into one of our Tierra Coffee Roasters locations for a great cup of coffee and some homemade baked goods: www.tierracoffeeraosters.com. What makes your chocolate special?
Our delicious chocolate is Certified Fair Trade, made in the United States, and of course, Certified Organic. Our dark chocolate chips are thousand-count size and contain 44% cocoa. The chocolate we use to coat the nuts and dried fruit contains 65% cocoa. This fall, we plan to launch our new Organic Milk Chocolate line.
